On Saturday, November 2, 2013, the youth of Champion Fellowship Church in Brenham, Texas held a car wash and bake sale to raise funds for winter clothing, coats, and shoes for orphans in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The car was was a great success! Thank you to all who came out and purchased baked goods and/or had your car washed!
A missionary friend of HIAOM visited an orphanage in Oskemen, Kazakhstan to hand out blankets and scarves that were donated by St. Paul's VBS in Brenham. While he was there, the weather ranged from 37-41 degrees below zero. He found that the children only had one pair of socks. When they washed their socks (which they had to line dry) the children did not have any socks to wear. Here I Am Orphan Ministries was able to provide each of the 350 children with 2 pair of warm socks. This photo is of the children receiving the blankets and scarves. A big thank you to the children at St. Paul's VBS for making these blankets!
This mission project came about due to the love that one adopted child had for the friends that she left behind in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Anna was adopted in 2004 and prays continually for her friends. She prays that they will find families, that they will have enough food, be safe, and have warm clothing in the winter. She feels such compassion and hurts for the needs of these children. She brought her prayer requests to her youth group at Champion Fellowship Church. After hearing the concern she had for them the youth group decided to have a car wash and bake sale to raise money to buy coats and warm shoes for these children.
The youth group's goal was to provide for 12-24 children. God had a much bigger plan! The car wash raised enough money to buy these items for 75 children!
The car wash has been held annually since then, and the efforts continue to be a success!
Following the 2008 fundraiser, sweatshirts, in addition to the jackets, were purchased for the children.
